by Mao Tse-Tung (Author)
Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, commonly known as The Little Red Book, is a collection of selected statements and writings by Mao Tse-Tung (Mao Zedong, 1893–1976), the Chinese communist revolutionary and founding leader of the People’s Republic of China. Compiled and edited by the People’s Liberation Army under the direction of Defense Minister Lin Biao, the book was first published in 1964 and became one of the most widely printed and distributed works in history, especially during China’s Cultural Revolution (1966–1976).
The volume organizes hundreds of short quotations from Mao’s speeches, essays, and earlier writings into 33 thematic chapters covering topics such as the Communist Party, class struggle, socialism, political work, people’s war, revolutionary spirit, and the correct handling of contradictions. It served as both a political handbook and a symbol of ideological loyalty, with citizens encouraged to study, memorize, and apply its teachings in daily life.
A primary source and one of the most influential ideological texts of the 20th century, Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung offers direct insight into Mao’s political philosophy, revolutionary strategy, and worldview for readers interested in modern Chinese history, communist thought, and 20th-century political ideology.
